New Tax Season Schedule is listed below.  

The County Treasurer's Office has the following responsibilities:<

  • Prepare all County real estate property and mobile home taxes; collects the revenue and distributes it to fifty different taxing districts
  • Invests all County funds under jurisdiction into interest bearing funds.
  • Oversees approximately thirty different funds besides the real estate taxes and mobile home taxes. Examples: County highway funds, township motor fuel funds, County motor fuel funds, bridge aid, inheritance taxes, etc.
  • Handles the payroll reports, retirement funds, and County health insurance
  • Issues all W-2 forms at the end of the year for all County employees
  • Is the Treasurer of the County 5% hotel/motel tax and is the Treasurer of the ETSB Board

Thursday, July 2, 2026 1.5% PENALTY APPLIED TO ALL PAYMENTS BY MAIL, BANKS,    
  AND ONLINE. Post Mark will count as date of payment.    
               
Friday, July 3, 2026 COURTHOUSE CLOSED-HOLIDAY.        
July 2- August 1, 2026 Penalty is 1.5% on first installment of taxes.      
August 2-September 1 Penalty is 3.0% on first installment of taxes.       
               
Tuesday, July 21, 2026 Surplus Sealed Bid books available        
               
Friday, August 21, 2026 Sealed bids due for Trustee's Surplus Sale      
               
Tuesday, September 1, 2026 Second Installment of taxes due.       
  Last day to pay at participating banks.      
               
Wednesday, September 2, 2026 Penalty is 4.5% on first installment of taxes.       
  Penalty is 1.5% on second installment of taxes.       
  NO PAYMENTS ACCEPTED AT BANKS.        
               
Monday, September 7, 2026 COURTHOUSE CLOSED-HOLIDAY.        
               
Monday, September 14, 2026 Subsequent tax payments accepted.        
               
Friday, September 18, 2026 Last day to pay to avoid Publication of unpaid taxes  
               
Monday, September 21, 2026 Publication list send to paper for Publication      
  $10 Publication cost added to bills.        
  List sent to print for delinquent notices to be mailed.    
               
Friday, September 25, 2026 Last day to pay with E-Check (at 8pm), personal check, and business check. 
               
September 26 - November 5 2026 Payments MUST be Certified Funds!         
  Personal and Business Checks WILL be returned.

You can notify the Treasurer’s office and we can make sure The Assessor’s know of the changes to the bill or you can also contact the Assessor’s office directly.

On the main page of the Carroll County Website, use the quick link that says “Property Tax Search / Pay.” Next enter only one of the following (not all): Property Index Number (parcel or PIN 12 digits no dashes), last name, or house number with street name. If none of those work, please call 815-244-0245.

Yes. Once you have located your property click to see the details and on the right side of the screen will be an option for tax bills. You would print it from there.

Credit and Debit card payments for Real Estate taxes are accepted during active tax collecting season and online. We now accept credit cards in the office. We will not accept phone payments under any circumstances. There is a QR code that can take you the same vendor for credit cards that we use in the office.
