The Sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer of the County. The Office of Sheriff dates back in history to old world Europe and was brought to this country by early settlers where it has evolved into a multi-task agency.The Sheriff's Office is staffed by twenty eight personnel that investigate complaints of criminal activity, operate a county jail, provide emergency 9-1-1 dispatch to persons in need of assistance, and ensure security of the courts and other offices in the courthouse.
The Sheriff and his staff work closely with other law enforcement agencies in the County to promote a safe place for citizens to live and work.
